FLUX-A-THON

Fluxathon is organized by FLUX (SCAD's UX club) in collaboration with MOMELOVE (SCAD's Motion Media Club) and Jitter. This 24-hour design sprint challenges participants to redesign a feature from a selection of platforms, including Blackboard, Roblox, Reddit, Outlook, or Goodreads. Each team also creates a 15-second clip using Jitter to showcase their project, which is then judged by a Google UX designer and a Motion Media designer.

Why Blackboard?

As a student studying user experience design, I focus intensely on the products I interact with. One tool all students use is Blackboard, which serves 200 million users across 16,000 institutions.

While it’s necessary, I often wish I didn’t have to use it, as many aspects of its design contradict the UX principles I've learned, impacting my experience and that of many others.

Research

31 Students struggled to find the resources they need.

25 Students have expressed a need for improved navigation.

During a 24-hour period, we surveyed 53 SCAD students and found that many felt the current Blackboard interface is hard to navigate. Specifically, 25 students expressed a need for improved navigation, and 31 students struggled to find the resources they need.
